SCALFORD

There is a single Vale Of Belvoir Angel stone here, in the grounds of this beautiful church. 

Sadly, the stone here is not in situ and has been moved and. along with several other gravestones, used as edging to the path which leads to the south porch.

What can be seen reads as follows... 'Mary wife of John Doubleday died August 9th 1737 aged 35 years' Any further inscription is lost below ground level

This is a double angel stone with what inscription visible being carved in relief, with the letters raised from the rest of the stone.  In its day, this would have been a very fine piece of work.
